School Renovations
Our Lady of Lourdes School was built in 1961 as Saint Joseph’s Catholic Grade School. The school was consolidated with Saint Boniface Catholic Grade School in 1990, and the name was changed to Marquette School. In 1996, Saint Boniface and Saint Joseph parishes became Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, and the name was changed to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.
Since its inception, there has been strong family and community commitment to the success of the school. Families at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School share a common goal: to promote the development of lifelong learners and leaders within a strong tradition of faith, service, and academic excellence.
In recent years, a number of wonderful renovations have been made to the school facility to enhance the educational experience for our children.
Kindergarten Room
In 2001, the Pre-School and Kindergarten room was remodeled at a cost of $22,611.14. This remodel provided new masonry entrances to the classrooms, new electrical, security, a new phone system, plumbing and classroom equipment.
Teacher’s Lounge
In August 2005, the STARS volunteer group, along with donations from school families and local businesses, renovated the school Teacher’s Lounge. This project included updates to flooring, cabinetry, paint, plumbing, drapery, wall artwork, plants, and lounge accessories such as trash cans, coffee pots, mirror, baskets and silverware.
School Office
In August 2006, the School Office renovations included new carpeting, paint, drapery and accessories.
Gymnasium Sound System
In 2006, a new gymnasium sound system was implemented. This project was driven by private school families and implemented by our school Technology Coordinator.
Gymnasium
During 2007, the 46-year old school gymnasium was completely renovated to include a new maple floor, bleachers, practice backboards, a volleyball system, non-glare lighting, chairs for players and coaches, a scorer’s table, a new lobby ticket booth, a concession stand, and updated locker rooms. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, the project goal of $150,000 was met. A new Gym Sound System was also installed and funded by the OLOL Technology Fundraising Team along with efforts by Matt Wauters and Gerry Byrne.
Library
In August 2008, an extreme makeover of the School Library was made possible through the dedication of parent volunteers. A budget of $16,000, raised by the Library Committee, provided new books, bookcases, bookshelves, magazine shelving and bookcase signage, magnetic bookends, carpeting, two round tables, a Librarian desk and drawers, paint, murals and accessories, a reading nook, updated electrical needs, 12 chairs, an entrance door and window, additional light fixtures, pillows, a Librarian computer, a teacher’s reading chair, step stools and 4 papasan chairs. Yearly donations of books keep titles up to date and interesting for our students.
Cafeteria
The Technology Fundraising Committee led and implemented a renovation of the school cafeteria, which was also completed in August 2008. The $53,000 for this project was solely funded with donations, school scrip, parish support and technology fundraising, along with the efforts of several volunteers. The Cafeteria renovation included asbestos removal from floor and ceiling, asbestos air quality testing and reporting, removal and re-installation of existing duct work, new ceiling tiles and frame work, new flooring, new lighting, speakers paint, tables and chair feet protectors on all chairs.
Electronic School Sign
In September 2008, a decision was made to add a new school sign on the northeast section of the parish/school front lawn on Suburban Drive. This sign places a focus on our school location and allows Our Lady of Lourdes to communicate school and parish announcements to the entire community.
